Taking our name from the small North Dakota town in which our founders were married, Wolford Press is proud to be a boutique book publisher that is grounded in strong family roots.

We are a traditional, royalty-paying publisher that keeps its catalog intentionally limited to only a few select projects each year.

It is our dream to make a new author’s dream come true. We love to see people reach their goals and have successful, happy careers. As a small, independent publisher, we don’t have the resources of major publishers. However, we have more heart than most.

Our typical advance for a full-length novel is up to $200, $75 for a novella, and $50 for an audiobook (when only publishing the audiobook). We pay net sales royalties in the following amounts:

Paperback sales: 20%

Hardcover sales: 25%

eBook sales: 40%

Audiobook sales: 40%

We are open and upfront about those numbers as we feel all publishers should be.

Services

Publishing

Wolford Press is a small, independent press that publishes up to four books a year. We currently have releases scheduled through December, 2023. Our genres thus far include Psychological Thrillers, Horror, and Sweet (Clean) Romance. We’re quite eclectic.

Formatting

While we are not a vanity press, (we won’t accept money from authors to publish their book), we do offer select book formatting services for authors who wish to remain independent but need some help. We will format your book for ebook, paperback, and/or hardcover, then send the file back for you to do with as you please.

Our official stance on vanity presses is that many are predatory and harmful.

Submissions

Fiction

We accept submissions of novels from 50,000 to 100,000 words, novellas of 35,000 to 50,000 words, and children’s picture books. We are open to submissions in the following genres:

• Romance
• Thrillers
• Children’s Books

Nonfiction

We are open to niche nonfiction. Pitch us your idea and let’s see if it fits. We are particularly interested in books relevant to the upper Midwest.

Audiobooks

We are happy to accept submissions of previously self-published books for audiobook consideration. You must own all the rights to the work submitted.

How to submit

For fiction and audiobooks, please send us your first three chapters, a synopsis, and an author bio. For nonfiction, please send us a full description of the project, an outline, and an author bio. We only accept electronic submissions. Please email to publisher@wolfordpress.com.
